My name is Marie Sépulchre and I am currently working as a senior lecturer at the School of Social Work at Lund University (Sweden). I started my work in Disability Studies by analysing the claims of Swedish disability activists through the lens of citizenship. Drawing on disability activists’ suggestion to use the discrimination law as a tool for social change, I examined, from an intersectional perspective, how the right to non-discrimination based on disability is understood and implemented in Sweden and the United States. My current research projects centre disability inclusion and equity in higher education, and disabled people’s right to freedom as non-domination in relationships of power and dependency.

I hold a PhD in Sociology from Uppsala University. My research has been published in different journals, such as the International Journal of Disability and Social Justice, the Scandinavian Journal of Disability Research, Alter – the European Journal of Disability Research, and Social Inclusion. My book Disability and Citizenship Studies (Routledge 2021) unpacks the struggle for citizenship of Swedish disability activists. I am a member of the board of the Nordic Network on Disability Research (NNDR).

Jag heter Marie Sépulchre och arbetar för närvarande som universitetslektor vid Socialhögskolan vid Lunds universitet (Sverige). Jag började mitt arbete inom funktionshinderforskning med att analysera påståenden av funktionsrättsaktivister i Sverige från ett medborgarskapsperspektiv. Med utgångspunkt i aktivisters förslag att använda diskrimineringslagen som ett verktyg för att förändra samhället undersökte jag, ur ett intersektionellt perspektiv, hur rätten till icke-diskriminering på grund av funktionshinder förstås och implementeras i Sverige och USA. Mina nuvarande forskningsprojekt fokuserar på inkludering och jämlikhet beträffande funktionsnedsättning i högre utbildning, och rätten till frihet som icke-dominans i relationer av beroende och makt för personer med funktionsnedsättning.

Jag har en doktorsexamen i sociologi från Uppsala universitet. Min forskning har publicerats i olika tidskrifter, såsom International Journal of Disability and Social Justice, Scandinavian Journal of Disability Research, Alter – the European Journal of Disability Research, och Social Inclusion.
